Met Gala 2014 Fashion

Happy Wednesday!
As you all probably know, the Met Ball was held on Monday evening. Now, in all honesty, I know absolutely nothing whatsoever about fashion. Heck, I didn’t even know what the point of the Met Ball was until I googled it. ( Turns out it is a yearly ball benefiting the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art) . I’m not someone who reads (or understands the point of most parts of) Vogue. I just enjoy looking at pretty people in pretty dresses & pretty tuxedos. So here are some of my opinions!

Ladies Who Killed It :

Taylor Swift : T Swizzle has been killing it this year, in my opinion. I love everything about this look. Really loving her shorter hair, it’s so elegant and grown up!

Sarah Jessica Parker: Yes. Just yes. I’m such a big SJP fan, and I love that she takes risks ( like the huge mohawk headband from last year’s MetBall!!). It think this is classy, elegant and perfect for the MetBall. Both her dress and her hair from behind are gorgeous as well.

Mary Kate & Ashley Olsen : These ladies are a prime example of why I will never understand fashion. These dresses are not something I would ever personally wear, but I really think that they suit them and the event? Also, what the eff are the Olsen twins up to these days anyway? It seems to me they just randomly appear every few years to reassure us they haven’t died or something.

Lena Dunham: I love Lena, but she has a tendency to choose questionable red carpet looks. I think she nailed this one though. It’s a cute dress, cute shoes, and her makeup is on point!

Kendall Jenner : Girl is looking goooood. Love how this dress gives her curves, and her hairstyle makes her look older and like a true model.

Anna Kendrick: Yes! Love the updo and winged eyeliner. Dress is perfect!

Emmy Rossum :  I LOVE the print of this dress so freaking much. Prints can be so iffy, and this is perfect.

Emma Stone : I love the crazy colors of this dress! And I really like the view of her braid from the side, it looks almost exactly like Elsa from Frozen’s hair after she let it go ( <– i made a joke! ) . I’m a fan of messy braids, and wish I could do them myself!

The Ehhhhh…

Anne Hathaway : Not feeling anything about this look. Front slit? No. And the shoes? Is it just me or do they look a bit tacky? To me, it takes a really perfect dress to pull off an all red ensemble on a red carpet.

Kristen Wiig : Girl, I love you, but WHAT IS YOUR HAIR. Like, did you get caught in a downpour? And not digging the dress either.

Kristen Stewart : I’m not even gonna touch this one.

Shailene Woodley : Or this one.

Nicole Richie:  This dress is bizarre… but to be honest I love her hair. Not the style, but the color.  I’m a big fan of pastel hair right now and I SO wish I could pull it off.

Couples :

David & Victoria Beckham : Ohhh I love me some David Beckham. Yes, please. I love a man in a white tux, honestly. And he pulls it off beautifully. Victoria’s look I could take it or leave it. I do like her accessories though, especially those earrings!

20140507-085836.jpg

Blake Lively & Ryan Renolds: This couple is so beautiful it is not even fair. Perfect. I have no other words.

Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen: Gisele looks smoking hot. Love the simple hair, and the dress fits her body perfectly! I wish Tom hadn’t gone for velvet. I just can’t support that trend. Not that my opinion matters in any way whatsoever!

Claire Danes & Hugh Dancy: Freaking adorable couple right here. They look so happy, and I love Claire’s simple yet elegant look. Love love.

Todd Spiewak and Jim Parsons: I mean, come on. Look how adorable! I love how Jim really stuck with the theme with his tux. And his partner wearing white? Perfect.

Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka: I CAN’T. I’m not sure what to say. But, no.

Christine Teigen and John Legend: I’m not 100% sure I love Chrissy’s dress, but I always think these two look great together.

Beyonce & Jay-Z: Jay looks flyyy! I don’t think I am capable of criticizing Bey, so I’m just not going to comment at all?

And finally, the absolutely no effing way :

Erykah Badu : It’s like the Pharell hat is a contagious disease. An awful, terrible, contagious disease.

Who are your favorites from the Met Gala?

The Oscars 2014 : fashion, selfies, and GIFs

Happy Monday!

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! Mine was consumed entirely by schoolwork. I’m trying my best to make up for the fact that I won’t be doing any for two entire weeks.

Since I literally have nothing exciting to say about my weekend, I’m just going to dive right in to an Oscars recap. If you don’t give a sh*t about award shows, you probably should stop reading now hahaha! Award shows are my guilty pleasure, so when I get the chance to ramble on about them for long periods of time, I tend to take full advantage!

Let’s start with fashion shall we?

And naturally, I’m going to start with Lupita Nyong’o because there is no other woman that has consistently hit the nail on the head every single award show this year. While she could probably wear a garbage bag and look absolutely stunning, I ADORE her dress. And it was so lovely how she said that the blue color of her dress reminded her of her home in Nairobi.

Maria Menounous always looks beautiful as well! I love the shimmery neutral colored dress. Loving the hair aswell! It’s not a totally outrageous jump out at you look, but it’s classy and elegant. Love it!

Keeping with the neutral theme – Kate Hudson! I love a good cape. Again, with the shimmery. Beautiful earrings, hair, everything! Just SO stunning.

Kristen Bell is adorable in another neutral dress. Which she chose because it had a “frozen” vibe, of course! Frozen also won best animated feature film, and I squealed a little bit. I also really loved Idina’s dress. And her performance?! Freaking amazing, but not that I expected any less.

Also, I LOVE that Kristen Bell tweeted about the fact she had a burrito stashed in her clutch. Woman after my own heart.

Cate Blanchett! She’s always so elegant. Love everything about her look!

Oh, you know who had the prettiest hair at  the Oscars?

Jared Leto.

Long hair on men makes me want to vomit, but I’m actually jealous of his perfect ombre, loose curls, shiny & healthy looking hair. He’s like a freaking walking Herbal Essence commercial. I was so happy he won Best Supporting Actor for Dallas Buyer’s Club. His performance was so moving and wonderful, as was his acceptance speech.  I love me a man that speaks so highly of his mom.

Let’s talk about Kerry Washington! I was kind of disappointed by her GG dress, and I feel like she redeemed herself for me with this Oscars dress. I LOVE the dark lips, and the naturally curly hair. Gorgeous! I can’t believe how pregnant she is! I have no idea how they are going to hide  that baby bump for the rest of the season on Scandal.

(ps: wasn’t last weeks Scandal INSANE?!!! I missed that show so much, I’m so glad it’s back on. )

Keeping on the theme of beautiful pregnant ladies, we have Olivia Wilde! Also known as the luckiest girl in the world, as she is married to Jason Sudekis. I just love photos that show husbands taking pictures of their wives on red carpets. I think these two win most attractive couple, by far.  I love Olivia’s jewellery, which help to dress up an otherwise simple ( but stunning) dress.

Kristin Chenoweth is like the real life version of Tinkerbell in my opinion. She’s the tiniest little pixie! I love her golden dress! I kind of miss her long hair though, but she can also rock short hair!

And then we have Jennifer Lawrence in red! Definitely better than that odd Golden Globes dress. Very simple dress, hair, backwards necklace. I think she looks great! And, if you look at her at a certain angle, it looks like she still has long hair, pinned back. I miss her long hair!

Oh, and you remember how Jennifer fell down on her way up to the stage last year to accept her award?

Well this year she fell on the red carpet, before the awards even started. I could write a book about how much I love Jennifer Lawrence, to be quite honest.

Chrissy Teigen also had a gorgeous dress! It reminds me of spring, and I’m all about that right now. Also, she was livetweeting during the whole show, and it was absolutely hilarious. Actually, she is hilarious 100% of the time on twitter, I highly recommend you follow her.

There were also a few killer looks from the after parties that I loved!

Mindy Kaling

Jennifer Lawrence ( I’m kind of on the fence about this one..but there is just something about it that I love!)

Ellen Page. I’m not sure why I like this but I do!

Amy Poehler! Obvs. You can’t see it well in this picture but I really loved her hair.

So those are my favorite dresses! Now, for the actual awards?

Ellen killed the opening monologue. I particularly enjoyed the joke about the LA rain. A Liza Minelli joke was made, and Liza did NOT appreciate it. Loved Pharell’s performance of Happy! Aside from his fucking hat. I honestly just want to push his hat on his head so it’s sitting normally. Is it really that hard? Also, can we take a minute to appreciate Meryl’s shimmy?

Ellen handed out pizza. And, for the first time in my life, I wish I was a pizza guy.

Gravity won essentially every award. I’d say they deserved it, but I can’t even watch the trailer to that movie without feeling like my heart is going to explode. Space gives me the creeps. The in memoriams gave me the sads. Bette Midler sang immediately after, and I got the chills. Pink sang a really beautiful rendition of Over The Rainbow as a tribute to Wizard of Oz.  Ellen made several hilarious references to Jonah Hill’s penis ( watch Wolf of Wall Street to fully understand this). The best selfie in the history of selfies was taken :

John Travolta introduced Idina Menzel’s performance of “Let It Go”. Atleast, that’s what he was SUPPOSED to introduce. He chose to pronounce Idina’s name as something similar to Abu Nazim. Honestly. Proof.

And still no Oscars for Leo

Lupita Nyong’o won best supporting actress and it was wonderful! You could tell she was so truly grateful and overwhelmingly happy. Amazing acceptance speech! Cate Blanchett came out of nowhere and won best actress, and gave a lovely speech. Twelve Years A Slave won Best Picture, and confirmed the fact that I absolutely need to make the time to watch that film. Matthew McConaughey won Best Actor (ALRIGHT ALRIGHT ALRIGHT).

Overall Ellen did a fantastic job hosting, in my opinion. The Oscars can be the dryest & longest of the award shows, but I didn’t feel bored for longer than it took for Gravity to win another award. The moral of the story is that funny women should host all awards shows, always.

So that’s my recap! I’ll leave you with one of my favorite quotes from the acceptance speeches  :

” When I look down at this golden statue may it remind me, and every little child, that no matter where you are from, your dreams are valid.”

– Lupita Nyong’o

I am about 95% sure that I’m going to be an old, crazy dog & pony lady . I’m going to live in a big house with something crazy like five or six dogs and a bunch of miniature horses that live IN the house. Doesn’t this make you want to be my friend? Hahaha

These photos are from a couple Sundays ago. I took them with my brothers fancy Nikon, which I honestly have no idea how to work. I just sort of winged it. I’d really like to learn how to properly operate it, so I’ve got a bunch of tutorials bookmarked that I just haven’t sifted through yet! I also have a bunch more photos to post, but they are from around town instead of at my house, so I felt as though these photos deserved their own post.

Happy Wednesday!

inspiration is everything

20140212-121021.jpg

“You are the books you read, the films you watch, the music you listen to, the people you meet, the dreams you have, the conversations you engage in. You are what you take from these. You are the sound of the ocean, the breath of fresh air, the brightest light and the darkest corner.
You are a collective of every experience you have had in your life. You are every single second of every single day. So drown yourself in a sea of knowledge and existence. Let the words run through your veins and let the colors fill your mind until there is nothing left to do but explode. There are no wrong answers. Inspiration is everything. Sit back, relax, and take it all in.
Now, go out and create something.”

ten things you may not know about me

Happy Tuesday!!

Thank you, to the lovely Carrie  for tagging me in the Liebster Award! I love these things, as I love learning new things about other bloggers! Its fun, interesting, and I am nosy. 😉

So, here are Carrie’s questions for me!

1) one thing that can always make you happy no matter what?

Choosing one single thing is ridiculously hard but I will have to say that no matter how shitty my day has been, a hug from my grandmother instantly makes me happy. It’s like being wrapped in  instant happiness, love, and comfort.

photo (4)

2) favorite season and why?

At this point, I would say anything but winter.  Am I right? It’s really hard for me to choose between fall and summer, but I would say fall. I love the warm but not hot temps, the colors, SCARF WEATHER, pumpkin everything, thanksgiving, pumpkin carving, candy corn and corn mazes.

3) if you could eat any meal from any restaurant regardless of price or proximity in the world to you what would it be?

Nutella crepes & a fancy latte in Paris. Preferably with a clear view of the Eiffel Tower. I’m no fancy foodie, so crepes will do just fine!

4) 3 of the biggest influences in your life?

The person who influences me most in my life is most definitely my grandmother. I consider myself so blessed to have this amazing woman in my life. She is my absolute favorite person in the world, the strongest, kindest, most selfless person I know who is always willing to share her wisdom with me. She’s been through more in her life than I can even imagine, and she keeps me going with her unconditional love and support.

The second most influential person would have to be my best friend. I cannot imagine life without her. We are so similar in so many ways that it is scary, yet at the same time we are so different, yet we support and love each other despite those differences. I feel most comfortable around her, and when I haven’t seen her in more than three days, I feel like a piece of me is missing. She’s also one of the few people I feel comfortable sitting in complete silence with. We have supported each other through extremely tough times, and I would not be where I am today without her. I feel like the luckiest person in the world to consider her my best friend. The below photo is from Grade 12 Prom, 2010. We look like babies! It’s crazy to think how far we have come in 4 years.

Who I consider to be the third greatest influence in my life may sound bizarre or cliche to some people, but I’d have to say Amy Poehler. Maybe it’s weird to consider someone you have never met as an influencing factor in your life, but I find myself constantly inspired by everything she does. I’ve learned a lot about strong women, feminism, hard work, and comedy from watching/reading interviews, and following her work  and it has helped me solidify my views/values on important social conflicts. I now openly express my views as a feminist who believes in strong women and equality, whereas before I was nervous about being judged for labelling myself a ‘feminist’, as I was previously led to believe it was a negative thing. I believe everyone should have a role model that they can look up to, one that inspires them to do more, be better, and not be ashamed of what they believe in! Shit got serious for a minute there, my apologies! 🙂

5) something you always have to do every night before you can go to bed?

I have to spend atleast ten minutes reading before bed or it takes me forever to fall asleep. I spend a lot of time during the day staring at screens, and we’ve all read a million articles about how screens right before bed can disrupt sleep. It’s true, I haven’t to put away my phone before bed or it is nearly impossible for me to fall asleep!

6) next place on your list to travel to?

Well, I’m going to VEGAS in March. After that, NYC is on my list. If you know me, you know that visiting NYC is one of my biggest dreams, and am I beyond excited to finally go there. I’m hoping that everything will fall into place and I will be able to visit this fall!

7) favorite thing about were you live right now?

My backyard. I love love love looking into my backyard and seeing my ponies, and the woods. I love the hills, the trees, and even I will admit it looks very pretty covered in snow. I do love cities, but I’ve always been an outdoorsy person, so I am happiest when I am surrounded my nature.

487033_10152470111590381_1884245665_n

8) what you’re thankful for right this minute?

My health. My job. All the opportunities I have been granted so far. The endless support from my family & friends. My animals. The Internet, for allowing me to connect with people whom I otherwise would never have been able to. My education. I could go on forever. I think it is extremely important to keep in kind how much we have been blessed with in life. We all have bad days, weeks, even months sometimes, but in the end, we have SO much to be thankful for. Gotta have some perspective, right?!

29767_10150211180670381_7018436_n

apparently I am feeling rather nostalgic about prom today? I love these people.

9) where do you picture your life 5 years from now?

Questions like these give me anxiety. Bad. I’ve never been one of those people with a 5,10,20 year life plan. I’ll be 26 in five years, and my automatic response would be to say I’d be just graduating from grad school for Physiotherapy, and working at a hospital, most likely in my hometown. While that is the path I am currently on, God only knows where I will actually end up. All I can hope for is that I am healthy, happy, and doing something I love! The rest is just details.

10) something you want to be remembered for?

I would like to be remembered as the person who encouraged and supported her friends no matter what. I’d like to be remembered for my laugh, for the fact that I always will find a way to be sarcastically funny, and I always will hug you, whether you like it or not.

Alright, the rules of this are you that you tag 10 other bloggers to complete questions you have asked. I’m going to pull the old “anyone who wants to do it” thing!  My questions for you are :

1) What is your favorite time of day, and why?

2) What song/artist never fails to cheer you up when you listen to it/them?

3) If you could do any job for one week, money/education not being a factor, what would you choose?

4) If you could have a conversation over coffee with anyone in the world, dead or alive, who would you choose and why?

5)  What inspires you the most? Person/place/thing, what gives you life?

6) Describe your idea of a perfect day.

7) If you had one piece of advice for your younger self, what would it be?

8) If you could guest star on one television show, what would it be and what role would you play?

9) What are you currently reading? Album you can’t stop listening to? Last movie you watched? TV show you are binge watching?

10) What do you do first thing in the morning? First thought that usually pops into your head ?

letting go

20140109-213842.jpg

“It hurts to let go. Sometimes it seems the harder you try to hold on to something or someone the more it wants to get away. You feel like some kind of criminal for having felt, for having wanted. For having wanted to be wanted. It confuses you, because you think that your feelings were wrong and it makes you feel so small because it’s so hard to keep it inside when you let it out and it doesn’t coma back. You’re left so alone that you can’t explain. Damn, there’s nothing like that, is there? I’ve been there and you have too. You’re nodding your head.” — Henry Rollins

resolutions..or whatever

be more organized – aka get my shit together. read one book per month ( for pleasure). watch 100 movies in 2014 ( currently at 3/100 ). write and post my bucket list, and work on getting shit done. start cooking more, less smoothies for dinner and more actual meals. hug more, smile more, laugh more, be more patient, loving and understanding – aka there is always room to improve yourself. less time spent on social media, and more time spent reading articles & blogs that inspire me, also REAL BOOKS. don’t let fear & anxiety run my life, take more risks and worry less ( i am the QUEEN of worry, so this is easier said than done. Take more photos, write more blogs, listen to more music. more adventures, more exploring – even when it is cold as balls outside. LESS NEGATIVE SELF TALK – you are beautiful, ok? Be present in the moment – the future is never concrete, it’s always changing and there is nothing you can do to stop it.

My #1 resolution/goal/whatever ? Work on BALANCE not PERFECTION. As a self proclaimed perfectionist, this is my biggest struggle.

Here’s to 2014!
{ i just wrote 2013, old habits die hard…}

– Jenna

Hello, 2014.

20140101-141509.jpg

” Fresh starts. Thanks to the calendar, they happen every year. Just set your watch to January. Our reward for surviving the holiday season, is a new year. Bringing on the great tradition of New Year’s resolutions. Put your past behind you, and start over. It’s hard to resist the chance at a new beginning. A chance to put the problems of last year to bed.

Who gets to determine when the old ends, and the new begins? It’s not a day on a calendar, not a birthday, not a new year. It’s an event. Big or small. Something that changes us. Ideally, it gives us hope.

A new way of living and looking at the world. Letting go of old habits, old memories. What’s important is that we never stop believing we can have a new beginning.

But it’s also important to remember that amid all the crap are a few things really worth holding on to. ” – Grey’s Anatomy

I think it is extremely important to remember that we do not need the start of a New Year in order to make resolutions, set goals, or to change ourselves for the better. It can happen at anytime, any place, due to any one occurrence. I love resolutions, don’t get me wrong. The beginning of the New Year has always been that time of year I found myself most easily resolving to a,b, or c. Perhaps one of my resolutions for this year will be to realize I don’t need the date January 1st to make resolutions.

2013 had both bad and good times, as all years tend to. However, it was the first year I both broke someone’s heart and had my own heart broken. It was the first of my bachelors degree, and the year in which I learned to balance school, working/running my own business, and a social life. I met a lot of new people, did a lot of things that scared the shit out of me, and came out alive despite what I may have thought at the time. Overall I’d say 2013 was pretty damn good to me, considering I still have a roof over my head, food to eat, and friends and family to hug.

I want to return to blogging in 2014, I miss it. Since I got back from Florida I let myself get consumed by finals and the holidays and my insane work schedule. Blogging is challenging for me in some ways, I’ve always struggled with writing. However, as with all things, I found it becomes easier the more often I do it. Plus, I’d love to have blog posts to look back on in a years time, so many little moments are forgotten by the end of the year!

This is short & sweet, as I’m off to one last celebration with my friends before they head back to school. I hope everyone had wonderful holidays, filled with food and drink, surrounded by those they love.

Here’s to 2014!!
Xo,
Jenna

Fight The Darkness

20131008-130815.jpg

” I know the feeling of characoal clouds that grow from nothing and replace the everything you once knew. I know the way darkness can saturate and almost seem to repel the light you seek. I know the cold that can come, and I know the way it feels to lost the wind that holds you up. I know. I know. “. – Tyler Knott

I’m struggling. Life truly has pushed me into the darkness over the past three days. It’s when I come across quotes like these, at the most appropriate time in my life, that I realize I’ll be okay. The light will find me again, I just have to be strong and wait it out.

Xo.
