the 2015 golden globe awards

Happy Monday everyone!

If you’re like me and stayed up later than usual to watch the Golden Globes – I feel ya this morning. Treat yoself to an extra cup of coffee today because you deserve it. If you aren’t already aware, award season is my FAVE, and I LOVE to do recaps. I’m a bit sad I don’t have more time this year to write a recap, but I did my best in between commercial breaks!

Let’s started with my picks for best dressed, shall we?

Salma Hayek – the fabric of this dress is a bit odd, but I love the fit & color of it!

Emma Stone – I love this look SO MUCH! It’s perfect for her body, I love the giant bow & the top of her jumpsuit is sparkly and fantastic. Next to Emily Blunt, I think this might be my favorite look.

Viola Davis – I know some people say wearing red on the red carpet is boring & predictable but I have to disagree. I think Viola looks absolutely stunning, and girl’s got some ARMS.

Allison Williams – Allison always looks dainty and fabulous and this look is no different. Her hair is borderline though – I HATE the wet hair look (see : Maria Menounous last night) but the dress makes up for it. Another red dress that I really liked!

Diane Kruger – truth: I have no effing clue what Diane Kruger is from/acted in/why she’s at the Golden Globes..but I love me a sparkly silver dress. A+, lady who I don’t know, ya killed it.

Lorde – I love me a jumpsuit. I love the crop top & her necklace. This kind of feels like it belongs at a music awards show, not the Golden Globes, but I’m still madly in love with it.

Amy Adams – she kind of nails it every time. Simple, yet elegant and not boring.

Anna Faris – I love this dress! Anna Faris is just adorable, and I loooved how cute her & Chris Pratt looked on the red carpet together.

Emily Blunt – I’m not sure why her face looks funny in this photo but OMG this dress! I think this whole look might be my fave. The braid halo, the dress, everything! Love. It.

Lupita Nyong’o – Lupita is quite possibly the most gorgeous human on the planet. The purple complements her skin so well, its so beautiful!

‘Kate Hudson – If I had a body like that, I’d wear a dress like that too. Bravo, Kate. If ya got it, flaunt it.

Anna Kendrick – Beautiful dress. She’s so stunning. Simple and Classic.

Aaaand the hosts of the evening : Amy & Tina. I will admit I did not care for their red carpet looks (except for Tina’s hair & jewels!) so I was sooo glad when they walked out on stage in much, much better dresses. These ladies absolutely killed the opening monologue, as per usual.

A. freaking. men.

The theme of this year’s golden globes seemed to be North Korea. The bit in the opening monologue was good. The Meryl bit was easily the best bit, but it kinda went downhill from there.

I haven’t seen Big Eyes yet, but this was good.

Award shows are like my Olympics. Not just because I love the fashion, and the jokes, and the drunk celebrities, but because they open my eyes to so many great films & television shows. Transparent was a big winner last night, as was Boyhood & Birdman. The Affair, Still Alice, The Grand Budapest Hotel, A Most Violent Year, Selma,  House of Cards (which has been on my must watch list for a year now), the list goes on. It always takes me awhile to fall asleep after watching because I’m so inspired by these wonderfully creative people who create amazing things. Hollywood is weird and awful in a lot of ways, but it does expose the world to talented people and real wonderful things.

/end weird rant. It’s 1 am and I am exhuasted, so please forgive me.

Moving on….

George Clooney gave a very nice speech while accepting some Lifetime Achievement award. He said very nice things about his wife that made my simultaneously “awh” and throw up in my mouth a little bit. I don’t know whose luckier: George Clooney because he is married to Amal, or Amal because she is married to George Clooney. Or maybe it’s Julianna Marguiles, because George Clooney called her “Jules”. Moral of the story: I’d still tap George Clooney.

sidenote: Did y’all catch their interview with E!’s Guilianna Ranic when she tried to get them to do tequila shots? Have you ever seen a more awkward interview in your life?! The side eye shade that Amal was throwing Gulianna was HILARIOUS.

Then Tina Fey came out in a rumpled tuxedo and everything was awesome. Would it be weird if my life goal was to succesfully pull off jumpsuit/lady tux? I just love them.

I’m rooting for Bill Hader & Kristen Wiig to host next year. They did a great job presenting, quite possibly the one presenters who weren’t awkward or inappropriate ( looking at YOU, JEREMY RENNER).

Overall it was  great show, with a LOT of diversity amongst the winners this year, which is always great to see. Now I know how many movies I have to watch before the Oscars.

Did you watch the Globes? Who was your pick for best dressed?!

On New Year’s day (after I slept until noon), I got Ariel to snap some photos of my ponies & I. I love these three goofballs so much, and I don’t have too many photos of us together and I am usually the ones taking the photos! I have to say the photo of Pearl (dark brown) & I is my absolute fave.

Just for fun, here’s one more that made me laugh really hard. Lucy is the biggest doofus in the world.

Have a great Wednesday!!

2014 in review

Happy Monday!

Sure, it may already be five days into the new year, but I really wanted to do a 2014 recap. I had noticed last week that all I saw all over social media was how 2014 was an absolute shitfest, or “the worst year ever”. I refrained from expressing my opinion of that at the time, but as I looked back through some old blog posts from throughout the year, I realized that for me, 2014 was the total opposite of a bad year.

Sure, it had it’s truly awful moments. Like, rock bottom awful. The winter of 2013-2014 truly was the worst winter have had since I was a kid. It lasted from November to May (seriously, we had a blizzard in MAY), and it just plain sucked. The best distractions proved to be photo taking adventures (there’s no denying snow is the prettiest), award shows (recaps are my FAVE posts).

Guys, I miss this beautiful face so much.

In March, I set off on my very first travel adventure with my best friend. We had ten sunshine filled days exploring Vegas, we went to a fan convention, we saw the Grand Canyon. We drove ourselves from Vegas to LA. I saw the entire cast of Parks & Rec (including Amy Poehler!!) in person. It’s with this trip that I officially fell head over heels in love with travelling.

April was filled with training for my very first 10K race, being teased by the weather with the idea of spring. May brought my first 10K. More photo adventures. The usual. May was also the celebration of my first year of blogging.

June and July consisted of the most schoolwork/studying I’ve ever done in my life. If I had to pick a low point of the year, I’d probably choose the majority of July. July saw many a mental breakdown, tears, not enough sleep and way too much coffee. However, as all things tend to do, it passed.

I had the entire month of August off from school, and I took advantage of it fully. I spent as much time as possible outside with my friends, teaching riding lessons, biking, riding ponies, visiting the beach, playing SO much softball, and generally enjoying time off. I fulfilled a childhood dream at the end of August when I got to see Shania Twain live in concert in PEI ( front row!!) . PEI weekend was by far my favorite weekend of the summer.

In September I turned 22, and finally fit into that damn Taylor Swift song. I celebrated with my favorite people in the entire world, and couldn’t have asked for a better birthday. Ariel and I won a 20K bike race we had trained over the summer for, and I think I forgot to blog about it. Oh, and I started school again. (Booooo).

October brought ALL THE FALL THINGS! However, the end of October was another low point as I suffered the loss of one of my dogs. I miss my sweet Rosie every single day, and I don’t think I’ll fix that piece of my heart that broke when she passed.

November brought the trip I’ve been waiting for since as long as I can remember. NEW YORK! It really, truly was a dream to finally explore that city, to see Broadway shows in person made my musical theatre heart burst with happiness. I’ve had the worst kind of wanderlust ever since I got back.

Then we have December. Which consisted of ALL the Christmas related things, multiple viewings of Frozen, drinks upon drinks upon games of cards against humanity with my favorite people, and a lot of schoolwork.

2014, you were overall a great year. I learned a lot about myself. I did things I never ever thought I would get to do. I was inspired by new friends, overwhelmed by the love of my old ones, cried a lot, watched a lot of telelvision, surpassed a lot of physical goals, and survived the tough times.

Christmas trees make me SO happy. Yes, she is crooked, LEAVE HER ALONE.

1.I totally started writing this post a week ago and then was too tired last Wednesday to finish & post it last week so this is  mish mash of last week’s news and this week’s news.🙂

2. Idina Menzel annouced a world tour for next summer and I about died of happiness. Her site crashed immediately after she announced, so I sat anxiously, waiting to see if there was any Canadian tour dates and lo and behold there are. I immediately texted Ariel and she graciously told me that we can drive to Montreal to see Idina. I kind of have the most amazing best friend in the world, y’all should be jealous.

Update: We bought tickets!!! September 1st in Montreal, 6 rows back from the stage, baby.

For now, enjoy this version of Let It Go from the CMA Country Christmas concert from earlier this week. SO. freaking good. I loooove Jennifer Nettles a whole bunches.

4. Let’s talk about TV: uhmmm SCANDAL?!! Holy shit that winter finale was so good. I don’t know how I didn’t see that Olivia kidnapping thing coming, but I was like WTF. I was totally convinced Papa Pope was gonna come out of the closet and knife Jake when he went to get the blanket. The scene between Papa Pope & Liv was kind of heartbreaking. Liv’s mom is hella cray, and Mellie straight up TOLD Liz . Endless Love playing in the background when Charlie & Quinn were beating the shit out of each other/ doing it? I laughed SO hard. Grey’s Anatomy is all kinds of UGHHHH. Derek did the same weird thing a couple of seasons ago. Remember when he had that thing where he liked to drive really fast and recklessly? It feels like that Derek is back and it’s awful. I much prefer the happy MerDer. I’m really warming up to the Arizona storyline, I like Geena Davis’ character a lot. Clearly not enough to remember the character’s name. Oopsie. The Good Wife was spectacular as usual, Cary & Kalinda kinda stole the episode for me, the last few scenes broke my heart in two. I’m very curious to see how everything is going to play out.

5. Now, movies – who has seen Mockingjay?! I still haven’t seen it yet & it is killing me!! Also soooo pumped for Into The Woods on Christmas!  And Pitch Perfect 2. And Jurassic World – just so many good movies are coming out, I can’t stand it. And Cake, starring Jennifer Aniston. It’s different than what she usually does and it looks amazing!

6. Speaking of Jennifer Aniston, did you guys see the Curse Off she and Lisa Kudrow did on Jimmy Kimmel? Hilarious.

I would SLAY at a Curse Off. I really, really want to do one. I’m not sure what that says about me, but I think it would be freaking hilarious.

7. My Macbook came last night and I am already obsessed. Retina Display is SO PRETTY. Looking at my PC now is like looking through dirty glasses and it is awful. I must say I am excellent at giving myself Christmas presents.

IMG_6687

8. So far driving to Montreal for the concert next year are the only travel plans that I have and it is totally freaking me out. Ever since I got back from NYC, as happens every time I get home from a trip, I have spent a lot of time thinking about where I want to go next. January and February are going to be all about saving up the $$ to travel. I cannot for the life of me decide where I want to go, all I know is that I NEED to meet more blogger friends next year. I’m kind of obsessed with you guys😉

9. What are your  favourite Christmas movies ?! I need some recommendations, I feel like I watch the same ones over and over every single year, and while I love them, I need some new ones! Do share please!

10. I’m unsure as to if I am going to watch Peter Pan Live tonight, but Laura Benanti auditioning for all the parts in the play is freaking hilarious.

Thanks again to Amanda  for hosting Thinking Out Loud Thursday.

Have a wonderful day lovely people!

holiday playlist!

Happy Tuesday!

It happened. Last week I broke out the Christmas music, and now I cannot. stop. listening. It’s an addiction and I’m listening to every possible holiday playlist I can get my hands on. I can take or leave gift guides, but if a blogger posts a Christmas playlist you can be damn sure I’ll listen to it. Annie posted her playlist a few weeks ago, and ever since then I knew I wanted to put together this playlist for you guys with some of my absolute favorites. There is a lot of upbeat stuff, because that’s just what I prefer. If I’m being honest, unless I am listening to a playlist on Spotify, I just have Idina Menzel’s holiday album on repeat. Last year it was Michael Buble’s (obsessed with White Christmas ft. Shania Twain, obvs. ), the year before that it was Glee.

Anyway, I’ll stop yammering and get to the music.

So, spill. What’s your absolute favorite Christmas album/ song?!

Also, if anyone is interested in exchanging Christmas cards with me leave me a comment/email!!! I looooooove getting/giving Christmas cards, so I thought why not include my online friends?!

being an adult is exhausting – a weekend recap

Happy Monday!

I kinda disappeared after posting my NYC recap last week, but it was my first full week at work post-vacation, thus meaning life kinda took over. It’s kind of funny how in just two weeks you can forget just how exhausting adult life is. Life is hard, y’all. As evidenced by my extreme crisis I had Saturday morning :

IMG_6669

I survived, in case you were wondering.

Let’s rewind to Friday for a second. It started off great. Friday is the easiest day for me to get out of bed in the morning, probably because it takes me the entire five days to get used to waking up at 7am, only to be ruined every weekend by allowing myself to sleep in and thus perpetuating a continuous cycle of struggle come Monday morning.

I digress.

IMG_6667

I was having a great hair day, the barista made my iced coffee right, all my clients showed up at work AND I got all my client paperwork done. When I got off work at 2:30 I had grand plans to get a shit ton of schoolwork and laundry done, go for a run, and obviously celebrate being home alone all weekend with a T Swizzle solo kitchen dance party.

I got home at 3 and immediately crawled into bed and napped until 5pm. On the drive home I was overcome with a feeling of exhaustion and my bed was calling my name. So, basically I got nothing done. I’m only human, people.

I managed to drag my ass out of bed to get the horse chores done, feed my dog, and fix myself some supper before Ariel picked me up to see a production of Annie at our local theatre.

IMG_6668

I think it’s safe to say New York has ruined all my future theatre experiences, as I can’t help but compare. However, for a little town production it was pretty entertaining. The little girl playing Annie had a hell of a voice, and I enjoyed the songs. It beat spending the night at home watching Netflix.

Saturday (after I got over my aforementioned crisis) was spent actually getting shit done. Multiple loads of laundry, vacuuming, washing dishes, running, Chemistry homework, dog walking was all completed before spending the rest of the afternoon getting coffee and baking reindeer cookies. I had a few of my friends over Saturday night, had some drinks, pizza & garlic fingers, and took 1 photo the entire evening. Bad blogger alert.

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

Sidenote: I heard that you people in the US & even the rest of Canada do not know the magic of garlic fingers. TELL ME IT’S NOT TRUE. Y’all are seriously living life wrong. Come to Nova Scotia and I will enlighten you.

I went to bed waaaay past my bedtime Saturday night, and woke up waaaay too early Sunday morning. Sunday is the one day a week I allow myself to forego all productivity whatsoever and do whatever I want. Call it a should-less day, if you will.

I made myself breakfast while watching old episodes of Will & Grace. Best way to spend a Sunday morning.

Twee2

I saw a matinee of Horrible Bosses 2.

It was really good. Sequels are SO iffy, but I must say they did a pretty damn good job of living up to the first one. Jason Sudekis kills me.

Sunday evening was spent  putting up my Christmas tree and watching Frozen. Not a bad Sunday at all if you ask me. I’d show you a photo of my tree, but she’s a little crooked right now, and I have to find a way to fix her up first.

ps: I’ve now seen Frozen a grand total of 8 times. Did you hear there might be a sequel?! You best not be lying to me, Miss Menzel.

I hope all my American friends had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend. I’ll admit, I was hella jealous of the Instagram photos of all the food. I’m always surprised by how big of a deal y’all make Thanksgiving. My family barely has Thanksgiving dinner, it’s a tragedy really. I tthink one of you guys should host me next year and show me how it’s done😉

#eatALLthefood.

How was your weekend? Details, please!

Did you go Black Friday shopping?! I bought a new laptop on Friday. Why are Macbooks so expensive?! It was necessary but I think I died a little.

NYC : the full recap

It was in the middle of summer that Ariel & I decided that we could, should and WOULD be going to New York this fall. We spent an unbelievable amount of time trying to decide when the perfect time to go would be. We researched when the most tourists would be around (October & Thanksgiving week on – DUH. ), when the Christmas decorations would be up, when the weather wouldn’t be too warm, etc. etc. I think that it’s safe to say, as evidenced from the photos below, that we picked the perfect week to go. It was chilly, but not freezing. The leaves on the trees in the park were still intact and were beyond beautiful. There were tourists (like ourselves) but not too many. Except in Times Square, which was avoided as much as possible as soon as we figured that shit out.

Vacation recaps are so difficult. I’d love to write out every meticulous detail, and share every photo we took, but I think that would be just a bit much, no? I tried to narrow it down as much as possible so as to save you guys from boredom. You’re Welcome!

ps: If you missed part one & two, you’d best see those first!

We spent a lot of time in Central Park. Atleast 5 hours walking everywhere in that beautiful place. While I liked the rushing people and the noise of the actual city, the park was really, really nice. Aside from the occasional smell of vomit, but what can you expect when you’re in NYC?
IMG_1360 IMG_1368 IMG_1461

10484298_10154816727645403_4091492262657947637_o

Can we just.. take a moment to look at that?! Freakin’ amazing.

I learned very quickly that you don’t really have to do much planning in order to see things in NYC. Just throw on comfortable boots, a scarf, and head outside. Walk a few blocks and you are most likely to end up seeing something you’ve seen on TV, or on blogs, or in movies…Just EXPLORE! And that is exactly what we did.

IMG_1472 1491335_10154816766780403_5299140362518850132_o IMG_1474 IMG_1399

DSC04168 IMG_3294_2 DSC04247 DSC04377 IMG_3337_2 IMG_3364 IMG_3389_2

We loved the Museum of Natural History, the NY Public Library was absolutely insane ( I’m oddly such a geek for stunning architecture!), Rockefeller Plaza was amazing ( soooo wish the tree was lit!), Grand Central Station was smaller than we expected (?!) , I liked the Central Park Zoo, as long as I don’t think too hard about the animals stuck in a concrete jungle.

IMG_1478 IMG_1582

DSC04434 DSC04439 DSC04457

I fell even more in love with Seth Meyers when we went to a taping of Late Night. We got front row, and were about two feet from him when he came over to talk to producers during commercial breaks. He’s adorable & hilarious. The top of 30 Rock was incredible. It’s surprisingly quiet up there, the noise of the city is muffled, and I spent a lot of time just standing there & staring like an idiot. It was an awesome moment, and we went both in the daytime & at night, just because.

IMG_3487 10397056_10154816777750403_2363555865198352116_o

The Lion King on Broadway was incredible. The music and costumes were stunning, and I was surprised how closely it followed the movie. The Lion King has been Ariel’s favorite since she was a kid, and I’m soooo happy that she got to see it live. If/Then was my absolute favorite though. I honestly had no idea what the storyline of the play was going into it, I only bought tickets because I’d be damned if I was going to New York and didn’t see Idina Menzel on Broadway, but the plot of the play was moving, funny, heartbreaking, and thought provoking. The entire cast was spectacular, and I’m still amazed that a voice like that can come out of such a little person like Idina. I may or may not be plotting how I can get back to NYC asap and see as many shows as possible – I’ve loved theatre for so long, now I’ve got the bug and it’s all I want to do! I’ve had a lot of people ask me what my favorite part of my trip was, and I’d say the plays were my absolute favorite part.

The thing about travelling is that once you do it, it’s all you think about. Ever since I got back, all I can think about is where I’m going to go to next. I will be back to New York for sure, hopefully sooner rather than later. You can only experience a city for the first  time once, and I think I made my first time count.  I’ll stop with the photos & rambling now, kudos to you if you actually read all this & looked at all the photos!

Till next time, NYC.

Love you.

that time I ate the entire city of new york

I love food.

Guess what place has a lot of really good food?

New York City.

I don’t have a lot of options for restaurants or cafes in my hometown. Seriously, the nearest Starbucks is 3 hours away. Of course, we have like 6 different fast food restaurants, but only 2 or 3 really good (read: non fast food) restaurants. So you should be able to see why I was really, really excited for the food in New York. And it did not disappoint. I’m pretty sure I ate maybe 3 servings of vegetables the entire 6 days we were there. I was a-okay with that. Past Jenna would have NOT been okay with that, but present Jenna totally is.

Because I really love food.

We tried to experience as many of the types of food New York is famous for as possible. I didn’t realize until the end of the trip that we actually had only went to ONE sit down restaurant, where we ordered a giant pizza. We also had dollar slices of pizza at 11pm after seeing The Lion King on Broadway. Truth: I kinda like the dollar pizza better.

Pizza

On our three hour drive home from the airport, Ariel and I made a list of everything we had eaten while we were there. It was an epic list, and I kind of regret not taking photos of everything we ate. The day I went back to work my boss told me I looked “tinier” than when I went to NYC. I actually told her it was all thanks to my pizza, croissant & milkshake diet. She laughed – but I was telling the truth. I worked out in our hotel room twice while we were in NYC – if you wanna call doing some planks & squats while Ariel showered “working out”. It was very, very freeing to really not give a fuck about working out or eating healthy food. I ate what I wanted, when I wanted. We walked so much every day that we were always starving come meal time.  I wanted to take advantage of the everything New York had to offer, and I’m glad I did. Sometimes you have to sacrifice health in order to just enjoy life. My advice to those wanting to stay “healthy” on vacation is to just say FUCK IT, walk everywhere instead of taking public transport, and eat ALL the food.

So we did what we do best, we ate ALL the food.

You MUST get a milkshake with your burger. And fries. MUST.

We walked 20 minutes in the pouring rain for Shake Shack and it was totally worth it.

New Orleans Cold Brew iced coffee from Blue Bottle Coffee

This was LIFE CHANGING. I have been dreaming of this coffee since we had it.

We are ordering coffee beans from Blue Bottle ASAP.

IMG_1591

Vanilla & Blackberry Jam filled doughnut ( YES, PLEASE!)  from Doughnut Plant

We also had 16 Handles frozen yogurt (so many options!), aforementioned pizza, coffee & bagels from Blue Dog Cafe right behind our hotel (highly recommend!), bagels from Ess-A-Bagel ( a religious experience. Cinnamon raisin bagel with chocolate chip cream cheese – holy crap!), Chipotle ( which we LOVE and there are none ANYWHERE near where we live.), and pastries from the deli/bakery down the street.

I realized we kind of missed a whole other thing by skipping sit down, fancy restaurants.

Next time, for sure.
